Guided by expert local leaders, you will journey from cosmopolitan Oslo and historic Bergen to the dramatic Geirangerfjord and the remote, jagged peaks of the Arctic Lofoten Islands, creating a deeply immersive Scandinavian experience.

Authentic Arctic Lodging: Sleep like a local with two nights spent in traditional, renovated over-water fishermen's cabins at Eliassen Rorbuer in the picturesque village of Hamnoy.

Cultural Immersion: Connect deeply with regional heritage through exclusive encounters, including learning from a local farmer in Eikesdalen and taking a guided exploration of the Lofotr Viking Museum.

When is the best time to experience Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?

We designed this adventure to take advantage of the beautiful Norwegian summer from June through August, when the landscapes are fully accessible and the trails come alive. The weather in this high-latitude region is famously changeable, bringing a mix of bright sun, rain, and coastal winds that make every departure unique and spectacular.

June: June brings maximum daylight with up to 20 hours of sun in southern Oslo and non-stop daylight in northern Norway, allowing endless time to take in the dramatic coastal vistas.

July: July delivers peak summer warmth and good trail conditions, perfect for witnessing the roaring waterfalls of Geirangerfjord and soaking up the vibrant urban ambiance of Oslo and Bergen.

August: August offers pleasant summer temperatures and generally more stable weather conditions, ideal for high-altitude hikes in Trollheimen and coastal exploration in the Lofoten Islands.

What is the group size for this trip?
The typical group size for this trip is between 6 and 16 guests, creating an experience that feels personal, relaxed, and thoughtfully paced. Small group travel allows us to share moments that make a journey truly memorable. Keeping our groups intentionally small lets us take advantage of unexpected local invitations and opportunities that would be impossible with a larger crowd, while ensuring closer encounters with the pristine environment. What is the minimum age for this trip?
The standard minimum age for this trip is 18. This itinerary is designed with adult travelers in mind, based on daily activity levels, accommodations, and overall group experience. Families or groups with children as young as 16 should check out our private departures. What makes this a Level 3 trip?

Our Activity Level 3 rating reflects a moderate hiking adventure that requires steady endurance for consecutive active days. The cumulative fatigue from moving across varied terrain, combined with rapidly changing coastal weather, establishes the moderate challenge of this itinerary.

Daily Trail Duration: Expect to hike an average of 3 to 4 hours per day, with specific days extending to 4 to 5 hours as you climb to mountain plateaus or explore rugged ranges.

Elevation Changes: Most days feature moderate elevation gains and losses of 500 to 1,000 feet, though the most demanding hike involves a 1,500-foot vertical gain.

Sustained Distance: Daily distances range typically between 2 and 4 miles, with the longest single trek covering a sustained 9 miles above Bergen.

Varied Terrain: Trails are often single track navigating uneven terrain, rocky mountain paths, and a unique section featuring large stone steps on Day 4. In the event of rain, trails can also be muddy or slippery.

Will the itinerary change?
We plan the itinerary carefully, but adjustments may be needed due to weather, trail conditions, or other factors. MT Sobek and our guides make thoughtful decisions when needed in real time to keep the experience safe and enjoyable, and any significant changes will be communicated as early and as clearly as possible.

On this extraordinary journey, you travel a distance of 1,400 miles in 11 days, relying on an intricate network of local planes, trains, ships, and vehicles. Because these independent transportation systems and coastal Arctic weather can shift on short notice, we ask that you bring a spirit of flexibility. Whether it means adapting to transportation updates or adjusting the daily sequence of walks, our focus is always on delivering a seamless and safe adventure. Arriving and Departing
Where does the trip start and end?
The trip starts and ends in Oslo, Norway. What airport should I fly into and out of?
You should fly into and out of Oslo Airport (OSL).When should I book my flights?
Once your reservation with MT Sobek is finalized, we'll notify you of your trip's status. After your departure is confirmed to operate, flights and travel arrangements may be purchased. While we can often confirm departures in advance, some decisions may be finalized closer to final payment. Please consult with your Adventure Coordinator before purchasing any non-refundable airfare to verify the status of your specific departure date. When should I arrive and depart?

We recommend finalizing your travel plans in close coordination with your Adventure Coordinator. To ensure a seamless start, please review your Final Details document, sent approximately three weeks prior to departure, for the most up-to-date schedule.

Arrival: Plan to arrive at Oslo Airport (OSL) no later than 11:00 am on Day 1 in time to meet our representative for the group transfer at noon, or join the group in the hotel lobby at 2:00 pm for your first orientation.

Departure: Schedule your departing flight from Oslo Airport (OSL) for the morning of Day 12 - one day after the trip has ended. Because flights returning from the Lofoten Islands on Day 11 occasionally arrive in the evening and face weather-related delays, we advise spending that final night at an Oslo airport hotel.

Who will I meet on Day 1, and where?

Upon claiming your luggage and clearing customs on Day 1, an MT Sobek representative will meet you outside the arrivals customs area at 12:00 pm noon at Oslo Airport (OSL). From there, you will join an included 30- to 40-minute transfer to our group hotel. At 2:00 pm, you will gather in the hotel lobby to meet your expert guide and fellow travelers for a brief trip orientation before heading out for a stroll through downtown Oslo. Specific meet-up details and emergency contacts will be confirmed in your Final Details.

What hotels do you recommend if I arrive early or stay late?

If you choose to arrive in Oslo early, we highly recommend booking extra nights directly at our group hotel, Hotel Oslo Guldsmeden . When checking in, let the hotel know that you are traveling with the MT Sobek tour group so they can do their best to keep you in the same room for the entire stay. Check in time is 3:00 pm. We strongly advise that you do not book a non-refundable rate, as hotels are always subject to change.

If you arrive prior to Day 1, you can easily take the airport express train to the hotel on your own. For a post-trip stay at the end of Day 11, we recommend booking a room at an airport property such as the Radisson Blu Airport Hotel or the Park Inn by Radisson Oslo Airport Hotel West .

Do I need a passport or visa for this trip?
A valid passport is required to enter Norway. Most countries require that passports be valid for at least six months beyond the end of your trip and contain at least one blank page for entry stamps. US citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. Non-citizens should consult their local embassy or consulate to confirm current entry requirements.Do I need to book the internal flights?
No, you do not need to book the internal flights yourself. We take care of these arrangements for you, booking your internal flights within Norway for Day 2 and Day 11. The cost of these flights will appear directly on your trip statement, and your guides will share all the specific details for your airport transfers during our journey together.Transportation and Transfers
Are airport transfers included?
Yes, a scheduled group airport transfer is included on Day 1 from Oslo Airport (OSL) to the group hotel for guests arriving in time for the designated 12:00 pm noon meet-up. Airport transfers for independent arrivals before Day 1 or departures outside our scheduled itinerary are not included and must be arranged on your own.Can MT Sobek help arrange a private transfer?

No, MT Sobek does not arrange private airport transfers for this itinerary. If you arrive outside the scheduled group window, you will need to make your way to the hotel independently. The airport express train is very simple to navigate, departs every 10 minutes, and costs approximately $25 per person, which is significantly more economical than local taxis or Uber rides that typically cost between $100 and $120 one way. If you choose to take the airport express train, be sure to take the train route that runs to Drammen, getting off at the Nationaltheatret Station and follow the signs to exit towards Henrik Ibsens gate/Parkveien. You'll walk another 10 minutes from there to the Hotel Oslo Gulsmeden at Parkveien 78, or use a rideshare app service. It takes about a half hour in total on this route to get to your hotel. Tickets can be purchased with credit cards at kiosks in the airport arrivals hall and signs are in English.

How much time will we spend in vehicles during the trip?
Most days on this adventure are centered on active trail exploration rather than driving. We utilize short van or minibus transfers, typically ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours, to connect you seamlessly to trailheads and historic properties. Larger groups of up to 16 guests will typically travel in two nine-passenger vans, each driven by a guide. Because this comprehensive trip covers 1,400 miles, we also incorporate spectacular coastal ferry crossings, scenic boat cruises, overnight train rides, and internal flights to bridge the distances beautifully. Are there any especially long travel days?
The longest travel distances occur on Day 2 and Day 11 to facilitate our journey to and from the remote north. On Day 2, you'll take a short 50-minute flight from Oslo to Bergen followed later by a four and a half-hour evening coastal cruise to Maloy on Day 3. On Day 11, you'll take a four-hour combined transfer and flight from the remote Lofoten Islands back to Oslo, which typically arrives in the evening.Fitness, Terrain and Trail Expectations
How difficult is the activity on Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?

This is a moderate hiking adventure that requires a comfortable fitness level for consecutive days of trail walking. You should feel prepared to spend an average of 3 to 4 hours on foot daily, covering distances that typically range between 2 and 4 miles over uneven terrain.

Daily Trail Pacing: Hikes generally last 3 to 4 hours per day on average, though the longest trek to Rundemanen high above Bergen requires 4 to 5 hours.

Elevation Change: Daily elevation gains and losses are typically a modest 500 to 1,000 feet, providing a rewarding workout without excessive steepness.

Footing and Terrain: You will navigate a variety of single-track mountain trails, rocky paths, and a scenic route on Day 4 that features large stone steps leading up to the Storsaeterfossen Waterfall viewpoint.

Back-to-Back Active Days: Because you'll hike almost every day across the 11-day itinerary with no full rest days, building a consistent physical base prior to departure ensures your muscles recover quickly.

Do I need prior experience?
Prior technical trekking experience is not required for this trip, but regular hiking experience is strongly recommended. You should be thoroughly comfortable walking for multiple hours daily on uneven surfaces, single-track paths, and rolling hills. Being accustomed to variable trail conditions will greatly enhance your comfort, safety, and overall enjoyment of the stunning Norwegian wilderness. How should I train or prepare for Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?
Preparing your body ahead of time ensures you can fully relax and enjoy the magnificent Scandinavian scenery. We recommend starting a dedicated training regimen at least six months prior to your departure to build a solid cardiovascular foundation and condition your muscles for consecutive active days on the trail.

Aim for a consistent cardio routine several times a week by walking, biking, running, or swimming.

Spread out your exercise to achieve at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week.

Incorporate weekly outdoor training hikes of 2 to 4 miles or matching that with 40 minutes of targeted aerobic training twice a week.

Practice on hilly terrain or utilizing a stair machine to prepare your joints for daily elevation changes of up to 1,500 feet.

Remember to take regular rest breaks every few weeks and back off your training routine a couple of weeks before departure to avoid over-training.Is there exposure or technical terrain on Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?
This is not a technical climbing trip, and there are no via ferrata or mountaineering sections. The trails are primarily single track and well-maintained rocky paths, though you will encounter uneven and sometimes slippery terrain and a segment with large stone steps on Day 4. While the scenery features grand cliffs and dramatic viewpoints—such as the spectacular Trollstigen platform hovering 2,788 feet above the valley floor—the walking routes are secure. Our expert guides manage pacing beautifully and ensure everyone moves safely and confidently. Can I move at my own pace?
We hike as a group with regular breaks. Guides help manage pacing so everyone can hike comfortably while maintaining safety and group cohesion. Our local leaders are masters at finding a rhythm that accommodates the group, allowing ample time to capture photographs of deep fjords and sweeping peaks. Because safety on single-track paths relies on group cohesion, we move together as a team, ensuring that no one feels rushed and everyone stays well supported. What if I want to skip a day?
We want you to feel comfortable throughout your journey. Because this is an Activity Level 3 trip, there are built-in opportunities to take a break. On Day 6 in the Andalsnes Valley and Day 10 in the Lofoten Islands, you'll spend consecutive nights at the same properties, making it very easy to skip the daily hike and relax at your historic hotel or explore the charming local galleries and shops. On point-to-point travel days, skipping a walk is less practical as the group is transitioning between regions, but your guides can help you assess the schedule each morning. How much free time will I have?
Your days will be wonderfully full, balancing scenic hikes, ferry cruises, and cultural discoveries. Typically, you'll arrive at your accommodations in the late afternoon, leaving you with dedicated free time before dinner to freshen up. Evenings are relaxed and unhurried, offering a perfect opportunity to unwind with fellow travelers over a traditional Scandinavian meal.Accommodations and Meals
What should I expect from accommodations on this trip?
This itinerary showcases an incredibly charming variety of classic Scandinavian accommodations, ranging from stylish boutique properties and modern 4-star hotels to rustic, local lodging. In general, rooms and beds may be smaller than you are accustomed to in the US, and single rooms are routinely smaller than double rooms. Additionally, twin rooms in Norway frequently feature two single-sized beds situated right next to each other—often sharing a single bedframe—and these beds cannot be moved apart.

On Night 8, you will sleep in a small, cozy compartment on an overnight train that accommodates up to two adults on two 29.5-inch-wide berths outfitted with high-quality mattresses, quilts, and pillows. While these compartments do not have private showers or toilets, shared restrooms are located at each end of the train car. Occasionally, the sleeper car is omitted by the railroad without notice. In that case, the group will seamlessly pivot to take the train from Oppdal to Trondheim followed by an evening flight to Bodo, where you will overnight in a comfortable waterfront hotel. Guests who have paid a single supplement will receive a private train compartment or a private hotel room.

On Nights 9 and 10, you will stay over the water in the spectacular Lofoten Islands at Eliassen Rorbuer, which is housed in beautifully renovated historic fishermen's cottages on Hamnoy Island. These bright cabins feature free Wi-Fi, a comfortable common lounge, a shared kitchen area, and kitchenettes equipped with microwaves and tea and coffee making facilities. Some layouts include bunk beds. These cabins are a mix of one- and two-bedroom configurations; guests staying in a two-bedroom cottage will share a bathroom facility with their cabin companions. Walk-in single room inventory is limited to a maximum of four slots per trip, and while we always strive to secure separate one-bedroom cabins with private bathrooms, we cannot guarantee private baths for everyone due to the historic, boutique nature of the property. In the event that guests do share one bath in a two bedroom cabin, you will always be with members of your MTS group (not with non-MTS guests). Will I have access to Wi-Fi and electricity?
Yes, electrical outlets are available at every accommodation, allowing you to charge your devices each night. Standard Wi-Fi is widely available and complimentary at the hotels and the Lofoten cabins, though connection speeds can be variable or weak in remote mountain valleys and coastal areas. Please note that while aboard the overnight train or out on the trail, internet access will be limited or unavailable. Can I use a CPAP machine on this trip?
For users of CPAP machines, outlets near beds and distilled water can be made available. Please inform your Adventure Coordinator upon booking if you plan to use a CPAP machine on the trip. What meals are included?
All of your meals are fully included on this adventure, starting with a welcome dinner on Night 1 through a final breakfast on Day 11. Specific daily inclusions are noted clearly throughout your itinerary, and any minor timing adjustments or venue updates across departures will be detailed in your Final Details. What is the food like on Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?
Dining on this trip features fresh, hearty Nordic cuisine perfectly suited to fuel your active days. Breakfasts are traditional Scandinavian buffets at the hotels, showcasing smoked salmon, whitefish, eggs, regional cheeses, cured meats, and freshly baked whole-grain breads. Lunches are a mix of sit-down restaurant meals with comforting soups and sandwiches, and picnic lunches in scenic settings. Picnic lunches are usually made from items taken from that morning's breakfast buffet and carried in your daypack. Dinners are set meals at the hotel or local restaurants, spotlighting fresh coastal fish, grass-fed meats, potatoes, and seasonal vegetables, always served with delicious Norwegian bread, and often prepared by talented local chefs using 100% organic ingredients. A limited selection of guide-selected beer and wine is thoughtfully included with your welcome and farewell dinners; additional drinks are available for purchase along the way.Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, we can accommodate many common restrictions like vegetarian and vegan diets on this trip with advance notice. Gluten-free diets can typically be accommodated as well, but total elimination of cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed.

Let us know about your dietary restrictions and food allergies as soon as possible, so we can coordinate with guides, hotels, and restaurants. Please also list these on your Participant Information Form.

Are single rooms available?

Yes, a limited number of single rooms are available on this trip. About a third of our travelers go solo, and single room inventory often books up quickly! You can find more information on solo traveler options here .

Are triple rooms available?
Triple rooms are not offered on this trip to ensure all accommodations meet MT Sobek standards for your comfort.Packing and Gear
What should I pack for Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?
Packing efficiently and in layers is the secret to staying comfortable in Norway. Key essentials include a high-quality waterproof rain jacket with a hood, waterproof rain pants, a lightweight puffer jacket, synthetic or wool base layers, wool socks, and well-broken-in hiking footwear. You will also want a warm hat, gloves, a sun hat, and a reusable water bottle. A comprehensive, detailed packing list will be provided.Do I need trekking poles or specialty gear?
Trekking poles are recommended for this trip but not required. Navigating single-track trails and descending rocky paths can put extra pressure on your knees and joints; poles provide excellent stability and balance. No technical climbing or specialty mountaineering gear is required. What size daypack should I bring?
We recommend bringing a mid-sized hiking daypack with a capacity between 25 and 35 liters, ideally featuring a padded hip belt and contoured shoulder straps for maximum comfort. Each morning, you will pack your drinking water (minimum two-liter capacity), sunscreen, sun hat, warm layers, rain shell, rain pants, and occasionally a picnic lunch, along with a waterproof rain cover for your daypack to keep your gear dry if a sudden shower rolls in.Can I bring more than one bag?
Guests should plan to bring one main piece of luggage and a daypack. Because vehicle space is limited, packing efficiently is important. On this itinerary, luggage transfer is included, meaning your bags are moved from hotel to hotel while you hike—so you can focus on the trail, not your gear.

Internal flights to and from the Lofoten Islands enforce strict weight limits: checked luggage must not exceed 50 pounds (23 kg) and carry-on bags are restricted to a maximum of 17.6 pounds (8 kg) and 22 x 16 x 8 inches. If these weight limits are exceeded, the airlines may charge you additional fees. Are there any seasonally required items?
Throughout our operating season from June to August, the defining rule of mountain travel is to dress in layers using synthetic or wool fabrics, which wick perspiration and insulate effectively even if wet. Cotton garments are strongly discouraged on the trail. Early June departures may experience cooler mountain conditions from spring snowmelt, requiring a warmer fleece layer or a lightweight puffer jacket, while August departures enjoy peak summer warmth but still require full wind and rain protection. What kind of footwear should I bring for this trip?
Sturdy, medium-weight, waterproof hiking boots with excellent lug soles are essential for this adventure. While low-ankle trail shoes are acceptable in dry, simple conditions, you must bring high-ankle boots to ensure proper traction and ankle support on rocky single-track paths and uneven mountain slopes. Will I have access to laundry during the trip?

Standard laundry service is available at most of the overnight hotels along the route. However, because your stays in each location are relatively short and turnaround times can take up to 24 hours, we highly recommend planning to hand-wash a few smaller items. Bringing a travel clothesline and a small packet of laundry detergent will make it simple to wash quick-drying synthetic clothing in your room.

Should I bring a personal medical kit?
Yes, we highly recommend bringing a compact personal medical kit. While your expert guides carry a professional first aid kit for emergencies, having your own supply of everyday basics is incredibly convenient. Your kit should include any prescription medications, over-the-counter remedies, test kits, and other pharmacy products that you might need with you, such as blister care items (such as moleskin or hydrocolloid patches), bandages, lip protection with SPF, sunscreen, and hand sanitizer. Some items easily purchased at home may not be available at local pharmacies; and there may not be a pharmacy in some of the smaller towns or remote locations you will visit.On-the-Ground Travel Tips
What is the weather like on Norway Natural Wonders Hiking by month?

Many travelers expect Norway's climate to be bitterly cold, and given the country's high latitude, it's easy to see why. The Arctic Circle cuts directly through the country about halfway up, and while Oslo sits in the south, it shares a latitude with Anchorage, Alaska. Farther north, Hammerfest claims the title of the world's most northerly city. Yet, despite these northern coordinates, the climate along the Norwegian coast is remarkably milder than you might expect—even in the depths of winter—thanks to the welcoming, warming effects of the Gulf Stream.

In the southern regions, summer typically stretches from early May to late August, though nature keeps us flexible—in an unusual year, peak summer warmth might only arrive for a brief week in late June. You will enjoy incredible daylight during June and July, with around 20 hours of sun in Oslo. If you travel north, you'll experience the extraordinary midnight sun, which shines continuously for nearly two months during this magical season. Summer days rarely climb past 80°F and comfortably cool down into the 50s to 60s°F.

Even in the far north, summer temperatures remain very pleasant. However, because your routes track close to the stunning west coast, the maritime weather can be wet and changeable. We always emphasize bringing reliable waterproof clothing. Should you encounter a damp stretch on the trail, remember a wise, classic Norwegian saying: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”

June: Average temperatures from 52 to 68°F, while northern Leknes in the Lofoten Islands averages 47 to 54°F.

July: Trail conditions reach their warmest point with comfortable averages of 55 to 72°F in Oslo and 51 to 59°F in Leknes.

August: Ambient temperatures remain steady, averaging 54 to 68°F in Oslo and 50 to 58°F in Leknes.

What currency should I bring?
The official currency is the Norwegian Krone (NOK). Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Eurocard) are widely accepted across Norway for most transactions, though some local supermarkets may not accept them. Cash can be obtained easily from ATMs in major towns like Oslo, Bergen, Geiranger, and Oppdal. We recommend exchanging currency or withdrawing Krone upon arrival in Oslo to have some local cash on hand for small personal expenses, optional tips, and village shops. Will I have cell service?
Cell phone coverage is generally excellent in urban centers like Oslo and Bergen, and your guides will have service throughout the program for any emergency situations. However, when hiking through deep valleys, remote mountain ranges like Trollheimen, or parts of the Lofoten Islands, cellular signals can be inconsistent or completely unavailable. We highly recommend downloading any important travel documents, maps, or reading materials to your device for reliable offline access. Will I need electrical adapters or a voltage converter?
Norway operates on a 220V-240V system, and you will need Type F adapters for plugs. You should check the labels on your personal electronic chargers to confirm if they support the voltage; if not, you will need a voltage converter. How much extra money should I budget?
Your land cost includes most major expenses of the trip. We recommend budgeting for personal expenses such as meals on your own, alcoholic beverages, souvenirs, laundry, and optional tips to your Guides. Please note that alcohol and general goods in Norway are quite expensive compared to US standards, so plan your spending money accordingly. How is tipping handled on this trip?
Tipping is a wonderful way to express your appreciation for the dedication, care, and deep expertise of your adventure guides. Your itinerary is supported by one MT Sobek guide for up to six guests, with a second guide added for larger groups. We recommend a gratuity of $100 to $200 per guide, per participant, preferably presented in local currency (Norwegian Krone) or US dollars at the end of the journey. Tips for local drivers, regional site experts, and hotel or restaurant staff are already fully included in your trip price. Please note that our local team cannot accept tips via credit cards, checks, or payment apps, so bringing cash is essential.Health and Safety
Do you recommend travel insurance?

Yes, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance can help cover trip cancellations or interruptions, medical expenses, emergency evacuation, travel delays, and other unexpected situations. We offer travel insurance with Arch RoamRight and will be happy to provide you with a quote. Please see our Travel Resources page for more information.

Do I need to be cleared by a doctor to participate?
There is no standard required clearance from a doctor to participate in this trip. You will have an opportunity to discuss your fitness and preparedness for the trip with MT Sobek. If you have medical concerns or questions about fitness, consult your healthcare provider before traveling. What medical support is available during the trip?
Your professional MT Sobek adventure guides are trained to highest standards and carry comprehensive first aid medical kits to manage minor trail issues or stabilize emergencies in the field. While advanced medical facilities and modern hospitals are readily available in major towns like Oslo and Bergen, access can be delayed or prolonged when hiking in remote valleys or out on coastal islands. What kind of challenges should I expect on Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?
The primary trail challenges include navigating uneven footing, rocky single-track trails, and occasional wet or slippery conditions caused by changeable coastal weather. There are also narrow, winding mountain roads like the Trollstigen pass, and ferry crossings to the Lofoten Islands can occasionally be choppy. These risks are beautifully mitigated by our expert guides, who monitor weather patterns constantly, adjust trail routes or pacing when necessary, and provide expert route briefings. To minimize physical strain, we emphasize the importance of using broken-in, high-ankle waterproof boots and maintaining steady hydration. How can I stay healthy during the trip?
Check with the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) for information on recommended immunizations, and/or your local travel clinic or healthcare provider for health concerns at your destination.

Maintaining simple, mindful self-care habits on the trail goes a long way. Stay thoroughly hydrated, wash or sanitize your hands frequently—especially before meals—and clip your toenails before the trip to prevent discomfort on descents. If your feet are prone to sweating or blisters, we recommend using liner socks and applying moleskin or hydrocolloid patches early at the first sign of a hot spot. If you are susceptible to motion sickness on narrow mountain roads or choppy ferry crossings, please consult your doctor regarding appropriate remedies and bring them with you.Trail Support and Emergencies
What if I have an emergency and need to be evacuated?
In the event of a medical emergency, your guides are trained to take quick, decisive action and carry reliable communication gear to coordinate with local emergency networks. Because certain portions of this route cross rugged valleys or islands where hospitals are distant, evacuation can be complex, prolonged, and expensive. Depending on where you are, evacuation may be conducted via local support vehicles, boats, or specialized emergency teams. We strongly emphasize the importance of carrying comprehensive travel protection with emergency medical coverage. Are bathrooms available on the trail?

Formal restroom facilities are available at hotels, restaurants, and occasional visitor centers or museum sites, but they are generally unavailable along the wilder mountain trails. When nature calls in the outdoors, your expert guides will advise you on proper Leave No Trace practices, helping you answer the call safely, responsibly, and with complete privacy while preserving the pristine Norwegian ecosystem.

What is the guide-to-guest ratio?
To provide an exceptionally attentive and high-quality experience, our departures are staffed with one expert MT Sobek guide for up to six guests. For larger groups up to our maximum size of 16 guests, a second professional guide is added to ensure seamless logistics, flexible group pacing, and support on the trail.Extensions and Local Exploration
Are trip extensions available before or after Norway Natural Wonders Hiking?
Trip extensions are not available for this itinerary. If you're planning to arrive early or stay late independently, your Adventure Coordinator can help you think through timing and logistics. What are the best things to do if I arrive early or stay late?
If you have extra time to spend independently in Norway, we highly recommend taking a couple of days to immerse yourself in the sophisticated culture of Oslo. You might enjoy visiting the Munch Museum or the Nobel Peace Center, as well as catching a ferry across the Oslo fjord to the island of Bygdoy, known as "Museum Island," for its numerous museums, such as the open-air folk museum.

Activities may include game drives along dusty or bumpy roads, canoe rides or river floats, sailing, or walks of up to 30 minutes on flat terrain. Trail conditions may include cobblestones, pavement, gravel, or dirt paths. On some days you may be on your feet for much of the time.

Easy-to-Moderate – Level 2

Active trips are appropriate for most travelers. You don’t need any previous kayaking, hiking, or other experience, but should be in generally fit condition. Trips may include short hikes or walking of up to 3 hours at elevations below 6,000 feet, sea kayaking in protected waters, or river rafting on Class I-II rapids.

Multi-Level – Level 2 & 3

These flexible trips are perfect for travelers seeking a range of activity levels, from easy to moderate, with two options to suit your preference and energy on the day. This type of trip also enables you to travel with friends who are more, or less, active than you, and either start or end the activity together. For example, Level 2 guests may choose a 3-hour hike while Level 3 guests may choose a 6-hour hike. This variety ensures that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a leisurely experience or a bit more of a challenge. No matter your choice, you’ll enjoy breathtaking scenery, unforgettable adventures, and plenty of time together as a group.

Moderate – Level 3

The majority of MT Sobek trips. These typically include 3 to 6 hours of physical activity per day, such as rafting or wilderness camping. Eight to ten-mile hikes can reach up to 10,000 feet and may include some steep ascents or descents. River rafting trips include Class III rapids and sea kayaking trips to visit protected waters.

Moderate-to-Challenging – Level 4

Trips for experienced travelers seeking full days of activity and a higher level of physical challenge. Hikes and treks of up to 14 miles and 4,000 feet of elevation gains and losses per day cover steep, sometimes rugged terrain, potentially into areas of exposure and elevations exceeding 10,000 feet. River rafting trips include Class IV-V rapids; sea kayaking trips include 4 to 5 hours of paddling per day in areas of open water with waves and tides.

Ultimate Challenge – Level 5

This classic adventure offers a perfectly paced exploration of Norway's most spectacular landscapes, seamlessly covering 1,400 miles over 11 days. Guided by expert local leaders, you will journey from cosmopolitan Oslo and historic Bergen to the dramatic Geirangerfjord and the remote, jagged peaks of the Arctic Lofoten Islands, creating a deeply immersive Scandinavian experience.

Legacy of Experience: Since 1969, MT Sobek has pioneered award-winning global adventures, earning proud recognition as the Best Adventure Travel Company by Newsweek Readers' Choice Awards.

Expertly Crafted Logistics: Our itinerary covers 1,400 miles in a single trip, connecting diverse regions using a seamless combination of scenic cruises, overnight rail, and internal flights.

Easygoing – Level 1

Our most relaxed style of travel. Come prepared with flexibility and a spirit of adventure.

Our most demanding trips for guests seeking a physical challenge. Trips include trekking without vehicle support over steep, often rugged terrain at elevations over 10,000 feet. Daily hikes of up to 12 hours or more may include substantial altitude gains and losses into remote areas of wilderness. River rafting trips include Class IV-V rapids and areas where portaging is needed. Previous experience, as well as a completed physician’s certificate, is required.
